Visitor pre-existing coverage

What is a Pre-Existing Condition?

In the context of healthcare in the United States, a pre-existing condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, ect., is a medical condition that started before a person's health benefits went into effect. You might look and feel healthy, but you might have a condition that you don’t know about. It's very painful to find out about a sickness when it's too late. Most insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions.

Is there a medical test to determine whether a person have pre-existing conditions?

The doctor who is going to treat you, will let the insurance company know about your sickness and whether it is a result of pre-existing conditions or not. It is better to share this information with your Health Insurance Provider, such as India Network Health Insurance, beforehand in order to get the right plan and be sure that you will get the coverage you need.

If you meet any of these conditions you should get a pre-existing plan:

  • If you are 50 years old and above.
  • If you take medication regularly.
  • If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, AIDs, cancer, etc.
  • If you had any kind of surgery prior to purchasing the insurance.
  • If you have any condition that will require regular doctor’s visit.

How insurance companies use acute onset definition?

Most insurance companies don't offer pre-existing coverage, but do offer acute onset coverage. There are a lot of exceptions that may apply when it comes to acute onset. For most insurance companies, insured must seek medical attention within 12 or 24 hour window after initial symptoms manifestation in order to be considered acute onset.

What you need to know about acute onset:

You should seek medical attention as soon as you experience any symptoms. When it comes to extreme conditions like a heart attack or stroke, people need to get immediate care since these conditions can be very severe, and could cost a lot of money.

Stay away from “acute onset” definition!

People should stay away from insurance plans that have pre-existing condition coverage with acute onset definition. This definition pretty much nullifies the coverage you were expecting for pre-existing conditions as it is impossible to run to the hospital immediately after some discomfort. Due to this reason, any plans that offer millions of dollars of pre-existing conditions coverage using the "ACUTE ONSET" definition at a very low price. As you see very well, most claims do not qualify under the definition of "acute onset" and you will soon realize that plan has no practical coverage for pre-existing conditions.
Any pre-existing coverage that uses "acute onset" definition is likely to deny your claims.

What does FULL Pre-Existing Coverage mean?

CHUBB Network plan and CHUBB Premier Plan  both offer full pre-existing coverage. These visitors insurance plans consider pre-existing conditions the same as new problems and coverage is extended to inpatient, outpatient care, etc. With full pre-existing coverage, you can take your visitor for outpatient care & doctors visits. For example, if your visitor has a heart condition and experiences chest discomfort, you have the option to take them to a specialist. Emergency care, ambulance, medical evacuation & repatriation services are also included.

All other plans on the market with pre-existing coverage are limited to acute onset (AXIS acute onset plan ) & offer only inpatient acute onset coverage for pre-existing problems. Acute onset plans are heavily restrictive in coverage. Moreover, it requires an emergency room visit with 12 hours of experiencing an symptoms related to a pre-existing condition. If you are not able to get to the emergency room in time, the insurance company will not pay any claims.

We highly recommend purchasing a Full Pre-Existing Coverage Plan. Although AXIS acute onset plan  is relatively inexpensive, the cost is reflective of the coverage the plan offers. The CHUBB Network Comprehensive plan and CHUBB Premier Plan  cover your pre-existing conditions with more inclusions and provide the benefit of seeing specialists rather than waiting in an emergency room.
